I'm a hippy, he's a lawyer...will it ever work out

I'm a hippy, he's a lawyer...will it ever work out?
Hey everyone! I have been going out with my boyfriend for almost 3 months. He is wonderful in every way, he is very serious about us, we share the same values about relationships, marriage, family, child-raising, he is very supportive and understands me, he's unbelievably romantic and a gentleman and i can say in every way he is just the ideal person for me. The only thing that troubles me in this relationship is that he is studying to be a lawyer and that means he can only get work in finland (where we live right now). I'm half finnish and speak finnish perfectly so it's not a problem but a half of me is lebanese and i grew up in southern California (my parents live there) and i don't know if i want to spend the rest of my life here in Finland. I absolutely hate the cold weather and am not that fond of the people here. I'm sort of an artistic hippy without a real home, I traveled all of my childhood and my dream has always been to travel around the world without a destination because I feel it's who I am. I feel he is too "germanic" and orderly to ever let loose like that... He's very proud as a person and I'm more of a free soul... I feel like I am sacrificing my dream for this relationship, but then again, he feels too good to even be true, I think he has that security I have always lacked in my life and that is very scary for me, but I don't know if I can ever get used to living in one place for the rest of my life, especially since that place is not a warm place... Is this a good enough reason to find someone else who will explore the world with me? I am afraid I would regret my decision for the rest of my life... Please help! What would you do? Do you have similar experiences?

Well I understand that you must compromise in a relationship but when you tell me that you feel you are sacrificing your dream for a relationship. The honest truth is that it shouldn't be like you're suffocating to death and sacrificing your dreams for this relationship. I'm sorry to say that sooner or later, you mind end up resenting the fact that you have had to sacrifice your dreams. Its important to date someone that has the same life goals that you do. Yes opposites can work, its been done many times, but opposites need to have the same life values and the same life goals. I understand about you wanting to be free because I share your same view about travel. I love to travel. But is there a way that you can do both? In my ideal relationship, I would want a home somewhere with my bf/husband but also the ability to travel all over the world. Is there a way that you and he can give it a fair shot before giving up? If this relationship is good then please give it a shot and see if you can try to make it work, and if you can't then perhaps its best to move on. I wish you good luck in whatever you do.

You need to decide what you want. Just remember, to joint (a relationship) you will need to pay dues. What dues are you willing to pay? Once you decide what you want the rest is easy.

I think you answered your own question. You don't need to hear about my personal experience. You know that you will regret staying. Take todayĆ¢€™s emotions out of the equation and although you may also regret the decision to not take the security, that choice would eventually suffocate you. I believe you already understand this.

you can still travel to lebanon in vacations, u can live and have a permanent address in finland but who said u cant travel?

I would sit down with a piece of paper and list the pros and cons of this relationship. Whichever side wins, that is what you should do regarding staying in Finland or following your dream.

Yes Dharma, yes Greg...

It's going to be 75 today here in Los Angeles. I'll be wearing my shorts and working the the yard. Ya, sure, you bet ya.

Life is to enjoy, not endure! I have a concern for you, as you may be selling your happiness, for security! I'm from the ole hippie days, which, I still hold some of the values(yes values). It's a lifestyle, and nothing more! When your "profession becomes your lifestyle", you become the slave to it! slave or free for me , it's free good luck

I suggest you'd each be happier with someone more like yourselves.

You usually need working or student visa to live in Japan. For working visa, you have to get a job offer from a Japanese company. But you can't look for a job in Japan without a visa. So you need it before you enter Japan.

Can I stay in the EU on a tourist visa once my work visa has elapsed

Can I stay in the EU on a tourist visa once my work visa has elapsed?
I'm moving to Finland in August and will be staying until June on a work visa. I would like to stay in the European Union and travel around for a bit after my work in Finland ends. Am I able to stay in the EU on a three-month tourist visa once my work visa expires or will I need to immediately leave the EU after I finish with my job? I am American, if this makes any difference at all. Any links to official websites would be greatly appreciated; I tried to do a google search on the subject but didn't come up with any helpful results. ETA: I realized that my original post did not distinguish between EU and Schengen countries. Finland, as well as several other countries which I would like to visit after I finish my work, is part of the Schengen Agreement. As a US citizen, I know that I can stay visa-free for up to 90 days in any Schengen country, but I don't know if I am allowed to do so after having already been in a Schengen country for ten months prior on a work visa. Hope this clarifies a bit!

Until recently, long-stay visa holders couldn't even travel to other member states.. but from your question, I'm not sure if you have a long-stay visa or a residence permit (which are usually issued for stays longer than 1 year). http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/expert/infopress_page/023-70124-067-03-11-902-20100308IPR70123-08-03-2010-2010-false/default_en.htm A long-stay visa or residence permit can't be converted to a tourist visa after expiry though. This includes people that don't need to apply for a Schengen visa to stay 90 days as a tourist, the rules are the same. When your permit expires, you have to leave Schengen for 90 days before you can return. It's hard to give an official web site, because none that I know of actually clarify this. In truth, many immigration officials don't know the rules very well either. I received this information from Migrationsverket in Sweden, but I had to ask multiple times to get a concrete answer. If you want verification, you should contact the migration board in Finland.. and ask several different people. http://www.migri.fi/netcomm/content.asp?path=8,2479 I recommend asking your job for holiday time before your permit expires, to allow for travel. Edit: Thanks for the update GP :)

I would have fully agreed with Elizabeth's answer if the question would have been asked before the 5th of April 2010, the date the new EU visa code went into effect. http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2009:243:0001:0058:EN:PDF .. In the Handbook for the processing of visa applications you can read on page 65: Examples of short stays before, during or following after a long stay: A visa applicant who has stayed in Spain for 6 months on the basis of a national long stay visa or a residence permit may be issued a uniform or limited territorial validity (LTV) visa immediately after the expiry of the long stay visa or the residence permit. http://www.info4alien.de/yabbfiles/Attachments/handbook_for_the_processing_of_visa__applicaitions.pdf .. I don't see any reason why a visa-free stay should not be allowed whereas it is possible to stay on a short stay visa immediately after the expiry of the long stay visa or residence permit. The only problem I see is how to get the short stay documented as visa-free passport holder since entry stamps are only issued on entry into the Schengen territory. I recommend to try to get your residence permit extended for three months based upon the EU visa code or to apply for a 90 day visa at the Embassy of the country of your main destination or the country you plan to visit next if no main destination exists. Alternately if the United Kingdom is part of your itinerary go there first which means exiting the Schengen territory and re-enter to through the next country you plan to visit on the continent. Be aware of the fact that the 90 days of authorized stay applies to the entire Schengen territory, not a single country. http://www.swedenabroad.com/Page____30281.aspx .. You should print-out a copy of page 65 of the visa-handbook since some immigration officers may not be familiar with the changes..

Does Grooveshark work in other countries

Does Grooveshark work in other countries?
I am going to Finland to study for a year and I know that hulu and other websites like that don't work in any other countries than the US. If you know the music streaming website grooveshark, then do you also know if it will work in other countries, specifically finland?

Spotify, which is a far better music streaming program works here in Finland and Scandinavia. You don't got to worry about technology here..
